Experience Copenhagen in a different way on this guided city walk that takes you to Nordhavn, a new sustainable and energy-conscious district with creative architectural solutions.
Let me show you the new district Nordhavn (The Northern Harbour), one of the largest urban development projects in Northern Europe. The Danish capital has an ambitious goal of becoming the world’s first carbon dioxide neutral city by 2025 and Nordhavn is part of that green strategy for Copenhagen.
In Nordhavn Copenhagen’s old free port and industrial port are being transformed into a sustainable and energy-conscious district. And by 2050 Nordhavn will accommodate 40,000 new inhabitants and 40,000 working places.
During the walking tour I will tell you about the mix of brand new and old recycled buildings; the green profile of Nordhavn; the past and present in the old harbour district; and give you an insight into Danish history.
Experience the architecture of the new Nordhavn district on this city walk
We begin the tour in the neighbourhood where the first Free Port of Copenhagen was established in the 1890s. At one time ordinary people had no access to this area unless they worked here. Or if they had a ticket for the ship to New York, it was exactly here that thousands of Danish emigrants left for the United States in the late 1800s. Explore the neighbourhood that was redesigned in the 1990s and consist of historic buildings from the time of the Free Port and new ones that interact with the history of the area.

Visit Konditaget Lüders and enjoy the view of Nordhavn and Copenhagen
You will visit a very special building, the internationally award-winning Konditaget Lüders (Lüders’ Exercise Roof). You can walk up or use the lift. 24 meters (78 feet) above the ground at the roof of a multi-storey carpark is this huge recreational urban space with room for exercising and playing – and with a fantastic view of Nordhavn and the rest of Copenhagen.
